ARROgram #36
September 2005 Newsletter

  1. ABR resident leave policy.
  2. ASTRO Meeting billing seminar.
  3. Board certification – Register for the 2006 boards by September 30.
  4. E-Campus book special.
  5. ACGME-RRC unsealed sources requirement.

  1. ABR Resident Leave Policy – We are looking forward to an official response soon from the ABR to the letter written by ARRO. This subject may also come up for discussion at the ASTRO Meeting on Saturday October 15. Steven Liebel, M.D., and Lawrence Davis, M.D., will hold a Q/A session about the ABR boards and recertification. This will be a good opportunity for residents to address any questions they may have directly to the ABR.
  2. ASTRO Denver Meeting – ASTRO is right around the corner. In addition to our more familiar ARRO events, we are also working on a special seminar on billing and coding. This will be on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Adams Mark Hotel. Stay tuned for more details on how to register for this seminar. The ARRO Program of Events begins on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., and the Residents’ Reception will be later that evening at 8:00 p.m. at B-52 Billiards located on 1920 Market Street.
  3. Board Certification – There has been some confusion regarding next year’s ABR Boards, and we have received many inquires about the locations and timing of next year’s ABR board exams. The schedule has recently been posted on the ABR Web site: http://www.theabr.org/RO_Dates.htm. Please note, the deadline for the 2006 written exams is September 30, 2005. These will be administered during the second weekend of July.
  4. E-Campus deal – We are currently working on a deal with E-Campus to establish discounts for resident textbooks. More info to come soon.
  5. ACGME-RRC residency program requirements for unsealed sources – We have received some inquires about the unsealed sources requirement. The exact wording of this requirement is: “. . . residents must participate in the administration of no fewer than six procedures using radioimmunotherapy, other targeted therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, or unsealed radioactive sources.” Residents who began their residency in July 2005 are expected to complete this requirement. Residents who began in previous years will be phased in realistically.
